I am in love with my colorful Easter Banner I made this year.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1232" title="Easter Mantel 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-mantel-2-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> Yes, it's the dreaded twine (I used embroidery floss) over balloons. Sounds fun and messy right! Well, gather your favorite colored twine, { I couldn't find twine in the right colors, so I used embroidery floss.} water balloons and some glue.<br/><br/>Step 1: Blow up several water balloons. {This can be tricky and make your mind a little fuzzy, but I promise if you endure it will be worth it}. Don't mind my drop cloth :-)<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1249" title="Easter banner 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-banner-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Step 2: Tape down the part of the balloon that you blow in. Not sure what its real name is. Let's call it the "neck".<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1250" title="Easter Banner 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-banner-2-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Step 3: Mix together equal parts white glue and water. First I dumped the floss into a cup of the glue/water solution. Umm... don't do this. All I got was a huge tangled mess of embroidery floss. So instead I used a plate of the solution and zig zagged the floss through it so I could wrap a whole bunch at once. Wrap the balloons in a random pattern with your soaked twine or floss.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1251" title="Easter Banner 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-banner-3-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1252" title="Easter Banner 4 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-banner-4-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />Step 4: Let them dry {I let mine dry for several days until the balloons started shrinking.} <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1253" title="Easter Banner 5 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-banner-5-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />Pop the balloons and then remove using tiny scissors and tweezers. These are my fabulous eggs with the wrinkled up, popped balloons still inside. Pretty right?<img class="aligncenter wp-image-1254" title="egg banner just eggs - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/egg-banner-just-eggs-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="425" height="715" /><br/><br/>FINAL STEP: String them onto any type of twine, ribbon etc. or just put them in a pretty dish for Easter.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1255" title="egg banner up close - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/egg-banner-up-close-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Hope this gets you inspired to create something special for your house for Easter too! What a week we've had! This is a simple idea, but the kids REALLY enjoyed it! We made giant letters out of brown paper, added some brown string to represent sections of the worms body and googly eyes. Who doesn't love google eyes? <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1144" title="Worm - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/worm-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> Getting some REAL worms to let the kids explore is always a treat! You'll be amazed that after a couple of days with your new "pets" even the most timid of kids might venture a feel. We did it last year and the kids LOVED it!<br/><br/>Happy letter making and good luck inspiring the little people in your lives to learn their letters!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-57642547382155066302012-03-18T23:29:00.000-07:002012-03-21T14:29:18.987-07:00Easter MantelEach holiday I am falling in love with my mantel more and more. It's so fun being crafty and festive! So.... drumroll please... here is my Easter mantel.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1231" title="Easter Mantel - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-mantel-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>I decided NOT to go with traditional Easter pastels, but a more modern and bright version of Easter colors. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1232" title="Easter Mantel 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-mantel-2-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1233" title="Easter Mantel 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-mantel-3-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" />Over the next two-ish weeks I'll be posting tutorials for all of the fabulous ideas seen on this mantel, plus a few other Spring bonuses not seen here. PLUS on March 27th one of my tutorials will be posted at one of my favorite blogs, <a href="http://oopseydaisy.com" target="_blank">Oopsey Daisy</a>! It's Friday and my Big Guy turns 6 today! Feels like he was just born. Enough about me, let's get to some Easter fun! I love this printable and I hope you will too.<br/><br/>I don't know about you but I'm tired of Easter Subway art that is all about the bunny. Although we enjoy Easter baskets and egg hunts at our house I want to glorify the One who rose from the dead on Easter, my Savior. So I created my own Easter Subway Art to bring glory to Jesus, the Risen One! I had it printed on canvas in the modern Easter colors. To download a huge version {to use as you please} simply click on the style you want.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1154" title="easter subway on mantel - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/easter-subway-on-mantel-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . But, it's something we actually did and the kids LOVED it. That's most important to me. :-) If you also think this post might be a little lacking, check back tomorrow. You are going to LOVE what I'm posting!!! Oh and if you haven't seen the <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.wordpress.com/2012/03/06/get-egged/" target="_blank">You've Been Egged </a>post, check it out! It's super fun. {Think Booed, Easter style}<br/><br/>To help us learn the letter shape for "t" we made silly little turtles using construction paper, tissue paper and google eyes. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1141" title="Turtle 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/turtle-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> First I cut out a t shape from construction paper. I made the "head" and "front legs" rounded at the end and the bottom of the t pointed.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1143" title="turtle 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/turtle-3-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/>The kids glued on oval "shells", google eyes and "back legs". To make the letter shape visible while the turtle wears his shell, the turtle was made out of tissue paper. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1142" title="turtle 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/turtle-2-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /> Have fun, the kids will love this project and don't forget to check back tomorrow for something you won't want to miss.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-5134790251054683182012-03-13T23:02:00.000-07:002012-03-21T14:29:18.981-07:00Shamrock Sort by SizeHi all! I've had so much fun with rainbows that it's been hard to add actual St. Patrick's Day activities. We did sort shamrocks by size! Feel free to download the <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/shamrock-sorting-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">Shamrock Size sort PDF</a>.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1166" title="Shamrock Sorting - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/shamrock-sorting-page-001.jpg?w=791" alt="" width="791" height="1024" /><br/><br/>Enjoy and Happy St. Patrick's Day!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-76568752031117757202012-03-12T23:33:00.000-07:002012-03-21T14:29:18.995-07:00Rainbow funIn honor of both the Noah story and St. Patrick's Day we're having LOTS of rainbow themed fun! We're integrating music, Bible stories, math and art. What great fun!<br/><br/>To begin the week we <em><strong>HAVE</strong></em> to learn the rainbow song and read the <em><strong>NOAH STORY </strong>{there's a Noah song we learn too but I'll post about Noah another day}</em>.<br/><br/>Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple,<br/><br/>red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple,<br/><br/>red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple<br/><br/>makes the rainbow BRIGHT, BRIGHT, BRIGHT!<br/><br/>We made rainbow colored splatter paintings using droppers and all of the colors of the rainbow. Who doesn't love getting messy at preschool?<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1134" title="Rainbow dot paint 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-dot-paint-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Our paint is ready to go! Check out those fun droppers from Discount School Supplies.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1136" title="Rainbow dot paint 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-dot-paint-3-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Each and every piece of art turned out so different. Aren't they pretty? I can't wait to hang them around the classroom!<br/><br/>We made simple rainbows using 1 inch squares of paper in each color.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1138" title="Rainbow paper 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-paper-2-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> This is a great fine motor activity for little fingers! <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1133" title="paper rainbow 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/paper-rainbow-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />As the teacher I first draw each colored arch with a crayon and then it gets covered as the squares are placed down.<br/><br/>We use the left over rainbow squares to practice patterning. We've got to mix in a little math here or there.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1092" title="rainbow patterns 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-patterns-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>For additional math skills we sort objects by rainbow colors using TWEEZERS! I just love my kid tweezers! Simply make a HUGE rainbow out of construction paper.<img class="aligncenter wp-image-1094" title="rainbow sort 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-sort-1-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="434" height="724" /><br/><br/>Grab a bucket of colored items for the kids to sort.<img class="aligncenter wp-image-1096" title="rainbow sort 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-sort-3-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="454" height="726" /><br/><br/>We used tweezers which adds entertainment value for me. :-) I cracked up watching them attempt to pick up a plastic strawberry using tweezers.<img class="aligncenter wp-image-1095" title="Rainbow sort 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-sort-2-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="397" height="701" /><br/><br/>Here are a few of my rainbow sorting helpers!<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1108" title="rainbow sorting 4 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-sorting-4-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>We practiced writing our names (or the first letter of our names depending on the age) using all of the colors of the rainbow. Have the students sing the rainbow song to figure out what color comes next. First I write their name or first letter gently in pencil for them to trace.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1145" title="Rainbow Writing - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-writing-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>We painted our hands to create this super cute rainbow art project. Paint the pinkie finger red, ring finger orange, middle finger yellow, pointer finger green, thumb violet and the entire palm white. Help the kids drag their finger tips in an arch (not placing the palm down) before stopping to make a hand print.<a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-handprint-page-001.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1137" title="Rainbow handprint - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rainbow-handprint-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></a><br/><br/>To study color mixing (Science) put a TON of caro syrup in 3 ziplock bags. To the first bag add red food coloring and seal WELL. To the second bag add yellow food coloring and to the third add blue food coloring. Seal all of the bags well! Then use a light box, a window or simply a white piece of paper to show how colors mix by overlapping portions of the bags. Don't actually mix the colors, just overlap the bags.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1158" title="caro syrup rainbow - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/caro-syrup-rainbow-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>We also make these super cute rainbow/clouds.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1159" title="cloud rainbow 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/cloud-rainbow-2-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /> I used crepe paper for the rainbows, but of course the store was out of orange and had to use tissue paper for that one. We actually cut out 2 clouds and then stuffed the "trimmings" in the middle to give it a puffed up look. <img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1163" title="cloud - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/cloud-page-001.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="231" />Download the <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/cloud-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">cloud PDF</a><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1160" title="cloud rainbow - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/cloud-rainbow-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/><strong>FREE PRINTABLES are for FOLLOWERS of Creative Preschool Resources. The kids know the weather is different every day but don't understand why it rains or snows etc. We'll read several books about weather, then make some puppets that represent different types of weather. <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/weather-puppets-final-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">PDF Weather puppets</a><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1059" title="weather Puppets final - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/weather-puppets-final-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="791" /><br/><br/>Then we play "Guess the Weather". I might say something like:<br/><br/>"This kind of weather is sometimes very <a name='more'></a>hot. There aren't any clouds in the sky. What weather am I talking about?" OR "I'm thinking about weather that is cold. You would need to wear gloves and a warm hat for this kind of weather. What am I talking about?" They then respond with the correct puppet rather than shouting out the answer. This game works on listening skills as well as comprehension.<br/><br/>We will also do several experiments including this one from <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/62980094758938634/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> about why it rains. There is no website to give credit to or I would direct you to the site. You add water to the cup, cover with foamy shaving cream and then add blue food coloring on top of the clouds. You can then explain that when clouds get heavy with precipitation it has to rain.<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1061" title="rain cup" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/rain-cup.jpg" alt="" width="553" height="738" /><br/><br/>As a class we will create a<a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/weather-graph.pdf" target="_blank"> "Favorite Weather" graph</a>. We will then transfer our results to paper graphs for each child. We can't wait to have fun with our students!<br/><br/><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . It's puffy, colorful and super fun. I got the original idea from a<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/77405687315214205/" target="_blank"> Pinterest Pin </a>{I love that place, don't you?} when it was done in pink.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1030" title="pomander final - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/pomander-final-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/>Simple... <a name='more'></a>get LOTS of cupcake liners (like 100) and white sewing pins. I turned my liners inside out so the color would show well. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1026" title="pomander 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/pomander-1-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> Put a pin into the middle of the the liner.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1027" title="pomander 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/pomander-2-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Add a dab of hot glue to the pin and then push into your styrofoam ball. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1028" title="pomander 3 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/pomander-3-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> Place them closer together or farther apart depending on the style you like. To be honest, I got lots of burns from the hot glue and it felt like it took forever to get it done, but once it was done I loved it!<br/><p style="text-align:center;"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1029" title="pomander 4 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/pomander-4-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />Linked Up at:</p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://brassyapple.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Brassy Apple</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://everycreativeendeavor.com" target="_blank">Every Creative Endeavor</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://tatertotsandjello.com" target="_blank">Tatertots and Jello</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://oopseydaisy.com" target="_blank">Oopsey Daisy</a></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-84638874260858977422012-03-06T22:13:00.000-08:002012-03-21T14:29:18.999-07:00Letter V VolcanoLearning about letters is so much fun! This week we are working on letter Vv. For our letter shape study we made letter V into a volcano that is spewing lava!<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1103" title="volcano 2 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/volcano-2-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/>Simply give each child two 1 inch strips of red <a name='more'></a>paper. Cut brown triangles from construction paper. Ask the kids to form a letter V using the red strips of paper. Then glue the brown triangles on each side. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1102" title="volcano 1 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/volcano-1-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" />Allow the children to add <del>red paint </del> lava in the middle of the volcano. Our kids had a great time making these!<br/><br/>To add some fun read a book about Volcanos and make or buy one from the store. Then use baking soda and vinegar to "erupt" your own volcano! The kids would never forget it! {Baking soda and vinegar make great volcanos!}Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-63086866335714792662012-03-05T22:30:00.000-08:002012-03-21T14:28:41.656-07:00Get Egged!Have you started thinking Spring yet? My kids always seem to know when they don't get their fair share of the pizza, mac and cheese, oreo etc. Introducing the kids to the concept of half and whole is an appropriate skill. Use these free printables to help your little ones recognize the difference between half and whole. They could also be used as super simple puzzles for the students to place the correct halves together to form a whole. Happy math time!<br/><br/><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . My son wants a Star Wars lego birthday party, but it's a swim party. I love using the "heart" type of overlapped hands to make each shamrock leaf. Super cute,<a name='more'></a> don't you think? I also added the date to make sure we remembered when their hands were that cute and tiny.<br/><br/>Have you seen my <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/st-pattys-day-mantel/" target="_blank">mantel</a>? Yeah, I can't get enough of it. So if you are curious about the printable it's mine. Feel free to download the <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/st-pattys-day-page-001.jpg" target="_blank">JPEG here </a>and manipulate the size as needed. Who doesn't like free stuff? Now on to St. Patty's Day business.<br/><br/>I had a TON of fun making this little project. So bright and cheery!<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-884" title="felt shamrock art - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/felt-shamrock-art-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /> I used this <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/203295370649100145/" target="_blank">Pinterest Pin</a> as my inspiration. I covered an 8x10 piece of cardboard with a great green fabric, then I made 5 of the cute felt shamrocks. I promise you felt is easiest... I made them with paper, with fabric and then with felt as shown on the pin. Neither the paper nor the fabric worked well. I then hot glued the shamrocks down, removed the glass from a picture frame and popped it in. I love the way it's 3-D and adds great color to my <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/st-pattys-day-mantel/" target="_blank">St. Patrick's Day mantel</a>!<br/><p style="text-align:center;">Linked up at:</p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://brassyapple.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Brassy Apple</a><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-887" title="make it monday logo" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/make-it-monday-logo.jpg" alt="" width="125" height="125" /></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://everycreativeendeavor.com" target="_blank">Every Creative Endeavor</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://everycreativeendeavor.com"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-792" title="linkyparty" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/linkyparty.png" alt="" width="125" height="125" /></a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://creationsbykara.com" target="_blank">Creations By Kara</a><img class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-1023" title="look-what-i-made" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/look-what-i-made.gif?w=150" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-75799571246886573422012-02-28T22:01:00.000-08:002012-03-21T14:28:41.675-07:00St Patty's Day Banner Sewing TutorialMy banner is the finishing touch on my mantel. I had so much fun sewing it. I am NOT a seamstress, but I can sew a straight line which is exactly what is needed to make the banner. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-881" title="mantel banner - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-banner-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />As long as you have access to a sewing machine and can sew a straight line, you can make one for yourself too!<a name='more'></a><br/><br/>Materials:<br/><ul><br/> <li>Fabric of choice</li><br/> <li>thread</li><br/> <li>ironing board</li><br/> <li>ruler</li><br/> <li>sewing pins<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-960" title="mantel tutorial 1-4 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-tutorial-1-4-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></li><br/></ul><br/><ol><br/> <li>Cut your banner fabric (the long piece that will hang across and hold all of the other pieces.) 2 inches wide by 45 inches {or whatever width your fabric comes in, you can always trim as needed} two times.</li><br/> <li> Pin the 2 pieces of fabric together {right sides together}</li><br/> <li>Sew the 2 pieces of fabric together</li><br/> <li>Iron open the seam you just made.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-957" title="mantel banner 5-8 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-banner-5-8-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></li><br/> <li>Fold the fabric in half and iron it. Then open it up again for step 6.</li><br/> <li>Fold one side into the middle {the iron mark you just made in step 5} and iron.</li><br/> <li>Fold the other side also into the middle and iron.</li><br/> <li>Fold together again to make the final iron pass. You will essentially go from a 2 inch wide piece of fabric to a half inch. We'll call this our binding tape. Like I said, I'm not a seamstress so I don't know the official names. :-)<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-958" title="mantel banner 9-12 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-banner-9-12-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></li><br/> <li>Cut your rectangle pieces out of your favorite fabric. I cut mine to approximately 5 inches by 10 inches. You will need 2 pieces of fabric for each rectangle.</li><br/> <li>Pin the right sides together of each rectangle.</li><br/> <li>Sew them together on 3 sides. {Sew the 2 long sides and only 1 of the short sides of the rectangle} Then turn it inside out.</li><br/> <li>Lay the banner out and make sure the rectangles are evenly spaced using a ruler.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-959" title="mantel banner 13 - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-banner-13-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></li><br/> <li>Pin each rectangle into the binding tape and sew one long stitch along the binding tape to hold each rectangle in place.</li><br/></ol><br/>Now you're done! You have a beautiful banner you created yourself!!!<br/><br/><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-881" title="mantel banner - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/mantel-banner-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><p style="text-align:center;">Linked Up at:</p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://creativeitchboutique.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Creative Itch</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://lilluna.com" target="_blank">Lil Luna</a></p><br/><p style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://sewcando.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Sew Can Do</a></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-73921705329513957762012-02-27T22:03:00.000-08:002012-03-21T14:28:41.672-07:00Dental HealthDid you know February is dental health month? With all of the Valentine's candy consumed, I suppose it makes perfect sense. To help my kiddos remember to brush regularly I created a week long calendar for them to mark their morning and nighttime brushing. After completing it they get to return it for a special prize. <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/toothbrush-calendar-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">PDF Download</a><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-925" title="toothbrush calendar - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/toothbrush-calendar-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="791" /> Some good prizes would be: tooth eraser, pencil, kids flossers, new toothbrushes etc.<br/><br/>We will also be discussing <a name='more'></a>what's good for our teeth. {No sticky and sugary foods} We will sort on a plate good for our teeth choices & bad for our teeth choices. <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/good-or-bad-for-my-teeth-page-001.pdf" target="_blank"> Download the PDF here.</a><br/><br/><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . The kids thought it was silly and enjoyed it bunches! We also ordered tooth pics by size. I got that from the Kidsoup website and don't have the rights to post it for free. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-935" title="dental health - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dental-health-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Have fun with dental health. It is super important to begin good brushing and flossing skills prior to getting adult teeth.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2656954109935893651.post-1206593400036817252012-02-27T09:22:00.000-08:002012-03-21T14:28:41.617-07:00Wreath GIVEAWAYI love my St. Patrick's Day inspired wreath so much I'm <em><strong>giving away</strong></em> a mini version of it! It really is an "anyday" color scheme, so who cares when you put it up. In fact, when I'm done with it on the front door it will go perfectly in my downstairs bathroom!<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-830" title="wreath final - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/wreath-final-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" />The mini version is approximately 10 inches in diameter and will have 3 small "clip on" flowers just like the original so the wreath could be interchangable for another season. I'm all about being <del>dual</del> multi-purpose! Here is the mini one. I'm sorry I don't have a fancy camera and this was the best shot I could get this morning.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1001" title="giveaway wreath - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/giveaway-wreath-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/>How to enter to win:<br/><br/>Leave a comment for <em><strong>each of the following </strong></em>{giving you up to 2 chances to win}:<br/><br/>1. We spend the day wearing pajamas and reading LOTS and LOTS of Dr Seuss books, like Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish. These books allow for lots of great integrated learning!<br/><br/><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . If you enjoy this printable, please take a second to "follow" us to recieve email updates {top sidebar}. Thank you!</em></strong><br/><br/>Make "Cat" hats like the one worn in The Cat in the Hat. Print this out onto red construction paper. <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dr-seuss-hat-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">PDF download</a><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-914" title="dr seuss hat - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dr-seuss-hat-page-001.jpg?w=791" alt="" width="791" height="1024" />ON THE BACK SIDE have kids add white stripes.<a name='more'></a> Then turn over and cut the hat shape out {which will trim the white stripes exactly right}. Attach it to a band and voila, you have a great little hat.<br/><br/>After reading One Fish, Two Fish have kids use assorted color "Swedish Fish" candies to practice patterning. <img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1100" title="seuss fish patterns close - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/seuss-fish-patterns-close-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" />Some kiddos used kid tweezers to build our fine motor muscles.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1097" title="seuss fish - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/seuss-fish-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /> We also make color patterns on paper using paint or crayons. <a href="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/one-fish-two-fish-patterns-page-001.pdf" target="_blank">Download fish pattern PDF</a><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-912" title="One Fish Two Fish Patterns - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/one-fish-two-fish-patterns-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="791" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1098" title="seuss fish painting - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/seuss-fish-painting-page-001.jpg?w=682" alt="" width="682" height="1024" /><br/><br/>These cuties just LOVED painting their patterns.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1099" title="seuss fish pattern painting - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/seuss-fish-pattern-painting-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><br/><br/>Take the kids fishing for letters, 3 letter words or sight words {depending on what you are working on}. I made this easy to attach tag to give as a little "favor" for each child.<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-980" title="One fish, two fish - Page 001" src="http://creativepreschoolresources.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/one-fish-two-fish-page-001.jpg?w=1024" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /><strong><em>*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources .
