Letter W Worm

Whew!  What a week we've had!  This is a simple idea, but the kids REALLY enjoyed it!  We made giant letters out of brown paper, added some brown string to represent sections of the worms body and googly eyes.  Who doesn't love google eyes?  Getting some REAL worms to let the kids explore is always a treat!  You'll be amazed that after a couple of days with your new "pets" even the most timid of kids might venture a feel.  We did it last year and the kids LOVED it!

Letter t Turtle

Okay, so with all of the excitement with my "You've been Egged" post, this is sort of lame.   But, it's something we actually did and the kids LOVED it.  That's most important to me.  :-)   If you also think this post might be a little lacking, check back tomorrow.  You are going to LOVE what I'm posting!!!  Oh and if you haven't seen the You've Been Egged post, check it out!  It's super fun.  {Think Booed, Easter style}

To help us learn the letter shape for "t" we made silly little turtles using construction paper, tissue paper and google eyes.  First I cut out a t shape from construction paper.  I made the "head" and "front legs" rounded at the end and the bottom of the t pointed.

The kids glued on oval "shells", google eyes and "back legs".  To make the letter shape visible while the turtle wears his shell, the turtle was made out of tissue paper.  Have fun, the kids will love this project and don't forget to check back tomorrow for something you won't want to miss.

W is for Weather

This week we are learning about various types of weather with our preschool students.  The kids know the weather is different every day but don't understand why it rains or snows etc.  We'll read several books about weather, then make some puppets that represent different types of weather.  PDF Weather puppets

Letter V Volcano

Learning about letters is so much fun!  This week we are working on letter Vv.  For our letter shape study we made letter V into a volcano that is spewing lava!

Dr Seuss Birthday - March 2nd

What school year would be complete without celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd.  We spend the day wearing pajamas and reading LOTS and LOTS of Dr Seuss books, like Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish.  These books allow for lots of great integrated learning!

Dr Seuss Tag

I love Dr. Seuss and celebrating his birthday with my class.  I made this easy to attach tag to give as a little "favor" for each child.*Please note: All free printables are only for readers of Creative Preschool Resources . Letter T - Teddy Bear Day

Today we get to bring our favorite teddies to school!  Don't you just love cuddling with something soft and squishy?  To honor our teddy bears on teddy bear picnic day we'll be reading several stories:  Teddy Bear Picnic,  Brown Bear, and Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.

Every preschool kiddo loves a great hat so today we're making hats!  Get the PDF hat here.

Letter T - Teddy Bear Sorting

Whew!  We're cruising right along with the alphabet and amazingly made it to letter T already!  With our focus on teddy bears we'll be doing some gummy bear sorting and graphing.  To practice our fine motor skills we'll be using tweezers to do the sorting.

Do you love integrating language arts with Math as much as I do?  Here's a PDF printable for the chant Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear turn around.  Use this to teach the kids the poem/song or print off a copy for each child and allow them to color it and search for letter Tt in the chant.

Letter S snake

We love making things out of alphabet letters.  It not only teaches the kids the names of the letters but also helps them identify the initial sound of the words.  For letter S we made a snake {surprise, surprise}.  Here's the cute little guy we came up with.  Made with construction paper, paper straws, yarn and google eyes.  I just love the way his little tongue sticks out almost as if he's hissing at you!

Letter Q quilt

Nothing goes better with letter Qq than a quilt.  {Who doesn't love getting cozy in a warm and snuggly hand-made quilt?}  I'm sure we'll have a couple dozen quilts show up for letter Qq sharing day.  To help the kiddos remember letter Qq we are making paper quilts using white construction paper, cut up scrapbook paper and yarn.

After gluing the quilt together we will help the students add a capital and lower case letter to their quilt.  Once all of their "mini" paper quilts are complete we'll sew them together using paper punch holes and yarn and then display the GIANT quilt in the classroom.

Letter P Penguin

When learning about letter Pp what better way is there to learn then to make a giant P into a cute penguin?  It don't think there is a cuter way.  :-)  So here is our giant P penguin.  The letter P is made from an entire sheet of 12x18 construction paper.  I simply used various colors of construction paper to make all of the rest of the parts and the kids get to glue him together.  To add a little flair we made them Rockhopper Penguins and added feathers to the top of his head.  Happy penguin making!

Letter O Octopus

It's letter O Week at preschool. Our phonics character {we use Zoo Phonics and LOVE it!} is an Octopus, so what else could we make besides a cute 8 legged creature.  This year I printed the octopus parts on colored construction paper

Letter N

Noisy nightingales need new nests.  Letter Nn is our focus letter this week.  In addition to a plethora of letter n activities we are doing abstract noodle painting.  Grab some noodles and get ready for some fun.  Using both cooked and dry noodles (any kind of noodles will work) have your child create an abstract piece of art on the Letter n page shown
