Valentine trace & cut printables

I love allowing kids to work on simple tracing or cutting activities during their "free time" {like when their REAL projects are done}.  I made the cutting pages in black and white since each child will need their own.  For the tracing pages, I print them in color and then slip them into a page protector and let the kids use dry erase markers to practice.  To download the image just click on it and then save it and print it.

**  MAKE SURE you are viewing and saving the full size version of these images or they won't enlarge well on a paper.  I'll save and post as a pdf version next time.**

Letter Q quilt

Nothing goes better with letter Qq than a quilt.  {Who doesn't love getting cozy in a warm and snuggly hand-made quilt?}  I'm sure we'll have a couple dozen quilts show up for letter Qq sharing day.  To help the kiddos remember letter Qq we are making paper quilts using white construction paper, cut up scrapbook paper and yarn.

After gluing the quilt together we will help the students add a capital and lower case letter to their quilt.  Once all of their "mini" paper quilts are complete we'll sew them together using paper punch holes and yarn and then display the GIANT quilt in the classroom.

Valentine's Day Flower Suckers

I wanted something adorable that my 7 year old was capable of making for Valentine's Day this year.  I thought, what better than a Valentine that looks like a beautiful flower?   Any girl would love to hand those out.  We came up with these...

  • Tissue paper

  • scissors

  • suckers

  • tape

  • Valentine tags (free printable below)

Penny & Nickel Sort

Playing with money is super fun!  Give each kiddo a handful of pennies and nickels and ask them to sort using the sorting sheet provided.  They'll think it's a game, you know it's coin recognition and sorting rolled into one, plus counting to get their final results and you could even compare {which has more?  which has less?}!

BLOCK Snowman Tutorial

I am LOVING making things with blocks right now.  It really is a quick project if a few power tools are involved.  So let's take a step back from Valentine's Day and just enjoy WINTER!  I made this adorable snowman in one afternoon taking breaks as paint dried...

Whew, it's Tuesday.  Over the weekend I went to a great craft night hosted by Missy G.  This is what I made

Isn't it cute? The only thing I would do differently is the bottom heart {it's too light}.  This year, it stays.  I might re-do it next year.

I love the way it finishes off my little Valentine area near the fireplace.

Letter P Penguin

When learning about letter Pp what better way is there to learn then to make a giant P into a cute penguin?  It don't think there is a cuter way.  :-)  So here is our giant P penguin.  The letter P is made from an entire sheet of 12x18 construction paper.  I simply used various colors of construction paper to make all of the rest of the parts and the kids get to glue him together.  To add a little flair we made them Rockhopper Penguins and added feathers to the top of his head.  Happy penguin making!

I am not joking, nor am I being dramatic.  After teaching for 10+ years I've used my fair share of play dough and there is nothing that beats homemade cooked play dough!  I've had this recipe for years and make it twice a year.  YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!  I only make it twice a year meaning it lasts that long!  Just keep it in a ziplock and it'll last for months on end.  Above number 1-3 shows my little lovely helping me measure the dry ingredients, then the wet and mixing them together over medium heat.

This is my fridge (before and after)....

Before:  We had kids work, ABC letters, envelopes of money that the kids were saving, business cards, chore charts etc.  It drove me nuts looking so cluttered and messy!  We had to keep white board markers and socks for erasing on the counter next to the fridge for our erasable chore charts.

After:  Ahhhhh....

Letter O Octopus

It's letter O Week at preschool. Our phonics character {we use Zoo Phonics and LOVE it!} is an Octopus, so what else could we make besides a cute 8 legged creature.  This year I printed the octopus parts on colored construction paper

LoVe Blocks

There are few holidays that I love more than Valentine's day {Christmas & Easter}.  So I just had to make something

Jonah and the Big Fish

I just love watching the kids eyes light up when they hear the story of Jonah for the first time and they hear about the big fish swallowing Jonah...  just priceless.  To help us remember all of the fun we've had with the Jonah story we are making these adorable {at least I think so} paper stuffed whales.  Your kids will LOVE making these with you!

Letter N

Noisy nightingales need new nests.  Letter Nn is our focus letter this week.  In addition to a plethora of letter n activities we are doing abstract noodle painting.  Grab some noodles and get ready for some fun.  Using both cooked and dry noodles (any kind of noodles will work) have your child create an abstract piece of art on the Letter n page shown
