BEST PLAY DOUGH RECIPE EVER!!

I am not joking, nor am I being dramatic.  After teaching for 10+ years I've used my fair share of play dough and there is nothing that beats homemade cooked play dough!  I've had this recipe for years and make it twice a year.  YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!  I only make it twice a year meaning it lasts that long!  Just keep it in a ziplock and it'll last for months on end.  Above number 1-3 shows my little lovely helping me measure the dry ingredients, then the wet and mixing them together over medium heat.  I like to add my food coloring to the wet ingredients, you can also add en extract for a fun scent {I like peppermint}.

At first it will resemble lumpy oatmeal {yuck} and then as it thickens you might think you're doing it wrong {at least I always worry}, but then it resembles a sticky dough. Just past the sticky dough phase, put it on the counter and knead it to make sure everything is well mixed.  Store in a ziplock and enjoy for MONTHS!

Dry ingredients:  3 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 6 teaspoons cream of tartar

Wet ingredients: 3 cups of water, 3 tablespoons of oil, food coloring, extract {optional}

Place dry ingredients in a pan and wet ingredients in a separate bowl.  Mix together over medium heat for 5-7 minutes.  Knead.  Add flour if too sticky.  HAVE FUN!

  1. Oh yay! I've been wanting your play-dough recipe since you mentioned it on my blog (yes, you included the recipe in your comments on my blog-but I'm lazy and haven't gone back to look for it). Thanks for enabling my laziness : )

  3. Just made it-I think I will need to play, too! It's fabulous! I might add some glitter next time...that would be fun, but we are all kinda sparkly like that : )
